KUA Suffers First Home Loss of Season

Kimball Union 2, Cushing 3 The Kimball Union boys’ varsity hockey team dropped its first home game of the year on Saturday to a tough, balanced Cushing team. Cushing got out to an early lead off a KUA turnover and took a 1-0 lead into the second period. Cushing struck for a powerplay goal midway through the second and then again off the rush to take a 3-0 lead into the third. KUA put the pressure on in the third and finally broke through when senior Alex Heinritz scored a powerplay goal with a great shot from the right wing with ten minutes to play. With under two minutes left and with junior goalie Sean Dynan pulled for the extra attacker, senior Sean Thomson found the net with a wrist shot through traffic from the blue line to get the Wildcats within one. However, Cushing hung on until the final buzzer and prevented KUA from scoring the equalizer.
