This Is KUA

Kimball Union Academy, or KUA, is an independent boarding and day high school that offers students in grades 9 through 12 or a postgraduate year with a transformative college-preparatory education that places individual growth and development at its core.

Founded in 1813, and one of the oldest boarding schools in the nation, KUA is rooted in history, yet unbound by tradition. Innovative in nature and forward-thinking in our approach, we stay true to our mission to create a deep sense of belonging for all members of our community as they develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.

Be You. Become Who You Want to Be.

Your time here begins with a safe environment where you can be you. By feeling an immediate sense of belonging, you’ll be free to take educational risks, stretch yourself, and defy expectations. You’ll live and learn in an environment that helps you navigate your unique path and builds your social and emotional confidence.

Go Beyond

Through KUA Design, our unique approach to education, we offer a variety of ways for you to acquire and demonstrate your skills so you can capitalize on your strengths while pushing you to face challenges. Along the way, you’ll be guided by our exceptional faculty, advisors, coaches, learning specialists, and college counselors who will prepare you for productive and meaningful lives in college and beyond.

It’s Possible Here

Our 1,300-acre campus is nestled in New Hampshire’s Upper Valley, a robust community of towns along the Connecticut River. This ideal educational environment offers students quiet, distraction-free study as well as access to rich cultural, intellectual, and recreational opportunities of our neighbors, including the Ivy League’s Dartmouth College. We practice place-based education, allowing our natural environment to extend our classroom for intellectual exploration in the mountains, lakes, and streams that surround us.
