Howe Dewdney & Welch Residence Halls

The largest capital project undertaken by KUA in more than 35 years was made possible thanks to generous philanthropic support from lead donors including the Allyn Family, the Borislow Family, Chris and Emily Burns, and the full support of the Board of Trustees.

An additional 240 donors ensured the project’s completion and seize an opportunity to rename Kilton after faculty members, Cynthia Howe H’20 P’06 ’14 and Murray Dewdney H’20 P’06 ’14. The state-of-the-art facilities were designed with an eye toward sustainability and community building. Learn More
Faculty Residences

Through the support of generous donors who helped unlock $1.5 million in challenges, KUA completed construction of three family-sized faculty homes connected to Howe Dewdney and Welch Residence Halls.

Completed in August 2025, the residences are in keeping with the Academy’s ongoing commitment to attracting and retaining top faculty who can deliver intentional experiences and build meaningful connections with students.
Sustainability

With the transformational support of an anonymous donor, KUA made major investments in Sustainability throughout the summer and fall of 2025.

These included the expansion of the KUA Farm, adding a 30x50 greenhouse, hoop house, sheep barn, and chicken coop. It also provided the necessary start-up costs, irrigation, electricity, and plumbing to allow the facility to generate produce and provide animal care year-round in a cold climate.
In addition KUA is in the process of installing energy monitors and electric metering throughout campus facilities. Energy data will be collected and used as an educational tool for students to understand our environmental footprint and to prioritize the most meaningful and sustainable capital investments going forward. Student research will be central to driving the major recommendations for the Academy's capital project planning.
Whittemore Athletic Center & Akerstrom Arena Renovation

With the support of more than 80 friends of KUA athletics, Whittemore Athletic Center and Akerstrom Arena underwent major renovations to improve the student-athlete and visitor experience while honoring the Academy’s rich athletic history.

Full Experience Scholarship Fund

The Full Experience Scholarship Fund was established with the support donors who sought to provide financial resources above and beyond tuition, and room and board.

Giles Family STEM Scholar Program

The Giles Family STEM Scholar Endowment, named in honor of lead donors Sarah and John Giles P’84, helped expand offerings within KUA’s STEM Scholar Program.

KUA Design

The opportunity to support KUA's educational approach, KUA Design, was established through the Lykouretzos Family Endowment Fund in support of teaching and learning across the Academy.

KUA Design offers a science-centered approach to teaching and learning that impacts all aspects of the educational experience. The fund supports faculty professional development and the practical application of neuroscience through the Gosselin Center for Teaching and Learning.
Noelle Family Day Student Scholarship Fund

Through the creation of the Noelle Family Day Student Scholarship Fund, students from Kimball Union's surrounding communities have access to a transformational experience for generations to come.
