The Kimball Union Academy boys’ varsity hockey team exploded for a four-goal first period en route to a 6-1 victory over Brewster Academy on Friday. KUA started strong, with junior Thomas Samuelsen getting the Wildcats on the board with a shot from the slot off a nice setup from senior Alex Heinritz. KUA kept up the pressure in the first, as senior Bobby Young tallied to make it 2-0 just minutes later. A goal by junior Andranik Armstrong and another by Samuelsen rounded out the scoring in the first. KUA went up 5-0 early in the second as Heinritz scored off a nice feed from senior Sean Thomson. Brewster answer with a goal of its own in the second. In the third period, KUA senior Mike Lombardi scored the final goal of the game to put the victory on ice. KUA goalie Sean Dynan was strong in net before yielding to senior Kyle Konin, who made several nice saves in the final seven minutes of play. The victory improves KUA’s record to 20-3-1 on the year.
