KUA Tops VA in Close Game

Kimball Union 2, Vermont Academy 1

The Kimball Union Academy boys’ varsity hockey team improved to 18-2 on the season thanks to a 2-1 victory over a tough Vermont Academy squad on Wednesday in Meriden, NH. Vermont got on the board first, scoring from the slot off a KUA turnover, and held the lead into the second. However, a pair of KUA defensemen scored goals within minutes of each other in the second to give KUA a lead it would not relinquish. First, senior Dillon Munson scored on a wrist shot that found its way into the Vermont net and then junior Bryce Dolan scored on a point shot through a screen. Despite not being able to find more offense, KUA held on for the victory thanks in large part to junior goalie Sean Dynan, who made a huge save on a Vermont breakaway in the second to keep the game 2-1. KUA’s penalty kill was also up to the task, killing off all six Vermont power plays, including an extended 5 vs. 3 power play in the third.
