KUA Shuts Out Cushing

The Kimball Union Academy boys’ varsity hockey team improved to 17-2 on the season with a 5-0 win over Cushing Academy on Saturday in Ashburnham, MA. KUA struck early with a goal from senior Alex Heinritz and then doubled the lead minutes later on a nice wraparound goal from sophomore Seth Stadheim. Heading into the second period up 2-0, KUA continued to fire shots at the Cushing goal until senior Sean Thomson made a great pass to fellow senior Bobby Young who beat the goalie on the backdoor to pad the KUA lead. A powerplay goal by sophomore Jordan Harris put the Wildcats up 4-0 going into the third where senior Mike Lombardi rounded out the scoring. KUA junior goalie Hugo Turcotte earned the shutout with several big saves on Cushing powerplays that prevented the home team from establishing any sort of comeback. KUA next plays Wednesday, January 11th at home against Vermont Academy.
