KUA Opens Nichols-Belmont Hill Tournament with Win

The Kimball Union Wildcats boys’ varsity hockey team opened the Nichols-Belmont Hill tournament with a 4-2 win over Millbrook School on Wednesday morning in Buffalo, NY. The Wildcats were bolstered by goals from three seniors -- defenseman Sean Thomson and forwards Mike Lombardi and Bobby Young -- as well as a goal from junior Thomas Samuelsen. Thomson got the Wildcats on the board in the first period with a one-timer from the point that found its way past the Millbrook goalie. Lombardi followed up with a strong effort on the rush and buried his own rebound to put KUA up 2-0 after one period. Millbrook closed the gap by one in the second but on the next shift Samuelson scored on a blistering one-timer from the slot to put KUA back up by two. Millbrook again pulled within one but Young sealed the KUA win later in the third period with a wrister from the slot. Junior goalie Sean Dynan earned the win in net.
