Wildcats Top Westminster - Harris, Armstrong Named to All-Tournament Team

Kimball Union 4, Westminster 1

The Kimball Union Wildcats boys’ varsity hockey team finished its Flood-Marr Tournament with a 3-1 record thanks to a 4-1 victory over Westminster School on Sunday. Westminster jumped out to an early lead when a point shot bounced off a Westminster forward and found the net behind junior goalie Sean Dynan. However, the line of Alex Heinritz, Nik Armstrong, and Thomas Samuelsen answered quickly as they worked the puck low in the Westminster zone and Armstrong made to circle behind the net but instead made an outstanding pass back to Heinritz who snapped the puck into the net while the Westminster goalie was caught out of position by Armstrong’s fake. The teams headed into the locker rooms tied at one after one period and in the second Armstrong set up Samuelsen with two great passes and Samuelsen made no mistake with either, beating the goalie with two great shots. Kimball Union held a 3-1 lead the rest of the way, thanks to some strong play from Dynan and the defensive core, and an incredible play by defenseman Jordan Harris who used tremendous speed to catch a Westminster forward on a breakaway to strip him of the puck. In the third period, the Wildcats survived several strong pushes from a determined Westminster team and defenseman Bryce Dolan put the game away with an empty-net goal in the final seconds. For their efforts over four games, both Harris and Armstrong were named to the Flood-Marr All-Tournament Team. Kimball Union now has an 11-1 record going into a week-long break before returning to action in the Belmont Hill/Nichols tournament next week in Buffalo, NY.
