End to end action from the drop of the puck produced a fan pleasing game in Akerstrom arena on Wednesday afternoon. With strong goaltending at both ends, there was a prediction that this game may end in a 0-0 draw. In the last minutes of the first period, however, a Holderness defensemen took it end to end and snuck one by Fontaine. Less than 30 seconds later, KUA’s own defenseman, Rose Abendroth, walked end to end and flung one on net. Charlotte Hankin was chasing behind and buried the rebound to tie the game. To start the second period Jamie Johnson won the face-off and zeroed in on the opponent’s net, finding the low blocker corner to put KUA in the lead. In the same shift Jamie Johnson found Eleanor Pschirrer-West, who fed it over to Halle Clark, who snuck one by the Bulls’ goalie for a 3-1 lead. It wasn’t long before Holderness answered back with two quick goals to tie it back up at 3-3. KUA would not allow Holderness to force them back on their heels, and the back and forth hockey continued. The third period brought out the best in KUA’s JV squad. They rallied, and worked together to dial up the pressure. The 4th goal for KUA came from a redirection, and was credited to Rose Abendroth. The 5th goal came off of another timely rush by defenseman Rose Abendroth, who created an opportunity for Halle Clark to ring the goal horn. The game sat at 5-3 when Holderness found the back of the net again. With a minute left to go in the game, Holderness pulled their goalie to create a man advantage and try to tie the game. Luckily, Erin Gregory-Davis was on the ice, stole the puck, and sent it sailing all the way down the ice into the empty net. The team’s “milkshake” goal song boomed throughout Akerstrom, and the fans went wild. A hard fought second win of the season. KUA will be looking for their third win this Saturday at home vs. Exeter.
