The Girls JV Squad came up short against a talented New Hampton team in their season opener. The game was kicked off with a cheer that could be heard throughout the campus of New Hampton, led by Junior Ella Malone. Malone is the team’s “secret weapon”, and keeps the bench alive from period to period. Fighting against the elements, including a thick fog on the glass and across the ice, the KUA girls fought from puck drop to final buzzer. Halle Clark, stepped up the to crease and volunteered to be the goalie for the first game. She made some outstanding glove saves, and kept the team in it. With our veteran defense, including Charlotte Greenspan, Esmé Juros, Rose Abendroth and Lindsay Peckham holding the blue line, we were certainly offered some offensive chances. Just under a minute into the second period, we capitalized, with Maggie Hicks ripping a puck by their netminder. Later in the game Eleanor Pschirrer-West was able to bury two back to back goals off of rebounds and pure determination. And with just seconds left to go in the game, it was Rose Abendroth, who sent one home to leave 4 on the board for KUA.
Great effort by all players, who are already gearing up for their first home game vs. St. Paul’s on Saturday.
