The KUA JV girls' soccer team put in 2 strong efforts this past week, earning a win and a tie respectively against High Mowing and Holderness. On Wednesday junior sweeper and co-captain Lexi Uryase anchored a determined back four, leaving the girls from Wilton confused and unable to mount a sustained attack. KUA once again had a balanced attack, with four different players scoring on the afternoon. While Wednesday was overcast with a few sprinkles in the air - truly a perfect day for soccer - Friday was a bright, foliage-rich day; a day of autumn reds and oranges exploding onto the hillside like a coral reef on a blue-green Pacific morning. On this day - Holderness Day - the Wildcats out played, out muscled and out skilled the Bulls, but only a late tally from Freshman Alicia Goodwin secured the single point on the afternoon. This was, by all accounts, a frustrating endeavor, as shots from Wildcat strikers and midfielders flew over and wide of the Holderness goal time and again. The effort on the part of Wildcats was tireless and tremendous, to be sure. Strikers Erin Gregory-Davis, Christina Ryan and Annie Madden tried desperately to bring victory to the Black and Orange, but it simply wasn't meant to be. Also registering notable efforts on the day were junior back Lilly Brownell and sophomore middie Tina Nguyen. Despite the diligence and determination, however, The Holderness GK was up to the task, and too many missed chances left the Wildcats with a perhaps somewhat disappointing draw. Today, despite all of the good work, the better team simply couldn't break through. KUA looks forward to the rematch next month!
