Wildcats Take Down the Rams, 11-5

The Tilton School Rams played with aggression and determination this afternoon on their home turf but fell short as Kimball Union jumped to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, never to look back. Sophomore Cody Danforth (Milton, VT) opened the scoring as Justin Wright (Waccabuc, NY) pushed a fast break opportunity and found Danforth right in front of the Tilton goal. David Robinson (Lexington, MA) took a clearing pass from close defenseman Brian Orr (Medford, MA) and dodged through several defenders to give Kimball Union a two goal lead early in the game. Later in the period Connecticut College bound Ryan Hayes (Darien, CT) scored the third goal of the game with an assist going to Co – captain Evan Roberts (West Cornwall, VT). Tilton struck back quickly to end the first period trailing by two. The Wildcats continued to break down the Tilton defense with goals by Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, VT) and two more by David Robinson with assists going to Robinson, Schmidt and Hayes.

Leading 6-1 at the half, Kimball Union gave up an early third period goal to the Rams but answered quickly with two more goals by Danforth giving him a hat trick on the day. Assists went to Schmidt and Scott Crawford (Mystic, CT). The fourth period was a draw as both teams scored three goals each. David Robinson scored his fourth goal on the day while Hayes wasted no time finding rope with assists going to Crawford and Danforth. Scott Schachter (Rumford, RI) scored the final tally on the afternoon for Kimball Union by taking a nice inside feed from Roberts. In this play Schachter was knocked to the ground as he fired a quick wrist shot into the goal.

On defense Co-Captain Trevor McGraw (Meriden, NH), also enrolling at Connecticut College next year, worked with teammates Colin Young (Dedham, MA) and Brian Orr to stifle the Ram offense. Nate Plummer (Meriden, NH), Garret Dyer (Williston, MA) and John Colburn (Norwich, VT) made significant contributions throughout the afternoon. Plummer was particularly effective with penetrating clearing passes that provided transitional opportunities for the Wildcats. Robert Bleakley (Lexington, MA) defended between the pipes and cleared deftly throughout the first three periods. Jonny Lowenstein (Hastings-on–Hudson, NY) replaced Bleakley in the final period. Subbing on the fly with no warm up, Lowenstein adjusted well, holding the Rams at bay after a quick Black and Yellow flurry which produced two goals. Andrew Richardson (Lancaster, MA) and Brent Bourgeois (New Haven, VT) continued to play in tandem at the long stick midfield position. Matt Parker (Shelburne, VT) teamed up with Roberts and defensive specialist Todd Rowley (Billerica, MA) to win 15 face-offs out of 19 opportunities.

The Wildcats travel to Holderness, NH on Saturday for a 1:00 pm face-off with powerful Holderness School Bulls.
