Wildcats Run on New Hampton Huskies, 17-2

Returning home to Pope Field after a short two game stint on the road, Kimball Union struck with lightning speed, finding New Hampton twine within the first minute and a half. Never looking back, the Wildcats led 12-0 at the half and finished the game with a 17-2 margin. The athletic Huskies battled throughout the afternoon but could not contain the explosive Wildcat offense that generated scoring from nine different players. Ryan Hayes (Darien, CT) led all attack man with four goals and one assist, followed by sophomore Cody Danforth (Milton, VT) with two goals and two assists. Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, VT) found Huskie twine on three different occasions while Scott Crawford (Mystic, CT) scored once. At midfield, Ryan Henry (Norwood, MA) set the scoring tone with two goals and some great off ball play as well. Co-captain Evan Roberts (West Cornwall, VT) and David Robinson (Lexington, MA) each had a goal and two assists while speedy sophomore Justin Wright (Waccabuc, NY) had one goal and one assist, Matt Parker (Shelburne, VT) scored once and Scott Schachter (Rumford, RI) registered two assists. Todd Rowley (Billerica, MA) teamed up with Roberts and Parker to dominate the face off ring on the afternoon.

On the defensive end Robert Bleakley (Lexington, MA) guarded between the pipes, stopping seven Huskie shots and shutting out New Hampton during the first half of play. Junior Jonny Lowenstein (Hastings on Hudson, NY) took over for Bleakley during the entire second half, making several quality saves and penetrating clearing passes. The starting close defense trio of co – captain Trevor McGraw (Meriden, NH), Colin Young (Dedham, MA) and Brian Orr (Medford, MA) shut New Hampton down throughout the first half. Allen Abendroth (Sunapee, NH), Nathan Plummer (Meriden, NH), Garrett Dyer (Williston, MA) and John Colburn (Norwich, VT) contributed significantly throughout the second half. McGraw also picked up his first assist of the 2007 season. Andrew Richardson (Lancaster, MA) and Brent Bourgeois (New Haven, VT) were very effective at the long stick middie positions and played close defense during the last quarter.

Kimball Union resumes play on Saturday afternoon with a game against Proctor Academy in Andover, NH at 2:30 pm. Due to wet fields however, the game may be played at about 3:00 pm at Kimball Union. Details will be posted on the Academy’s website once they are confirmed.
