Strong Pitching, Timely Hitting Lead KUA Over Tilton

In a tough Lakes Region matchup, the Wildcats got some key two-out hits and a strong pitching performance from Bailey Cassin to beat Tilton 5-0 on the road on Friday. After two scoreless innings, Gabi Young knocked the first hit of the game for either team. Olivia Parker bunted Young over to third, and Evelyn Hsu drove her in with a ground ball out. After Anna Baker and Leila Portugal reached base with two out, Avy Arias smacked a key double, driving in Baker and giving KUA a 2-0 lead. Thanks to the battery of Cassin (11 strikeouts) and Arias, as well as some excellent defense, the game stayed that way until the seventh inning when KUA broke it open. Parker doubled, and then Hsu reached base on an infield hit. Portugal then drove in both runners with a hit of her own before Arias cranked another two-out double to score Portugal. Cassin and the defense did the rest in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.
