KUA Girls JV Soccer played their season opener against the Brewster Bobcats. The match kicked off at 3:00 pm in sunny conditions on the lake at Brewster. As goalkeeper for KUA, Sabrina Haberstock made excellent saves and kept feeding balls up to the midfield. In the midfield, Emilia Williams, Addie Kopacz, Gabi D’Angelo and Maggie Lopez were tenacious and kept pushing the ball upfield. On defense, Briana Angelli, Kylie Donovan, Elsa Shortlidge, and Jitzelin Montas held the Brewster defense at bay for a time. Eventually, with only two substitutes, KUA’s energy level began to ebb and Brewster started finding openings to score. Brewster led 4-0 at the half. Ada Yoder came in as goalie and made a solid effort to prevent goals. Julia Ferro Anton and Hannah French made great passes out to the wings to enable the offense. Midway through the second half, Hadley Bethke scored a great crossing goal that passed the goalkeeper and hit the right front of the net to get the Wildcats on the scoreboard. The KUA girls showed a lot of heart and never gave up despite the final score of 1-8 Brewster. Join us next week on Wednesday on the road at Northfield Mount Hermon School.
