KUA Celebrates Underclass Students’ Success

The full Kimball Union Academy community celebrated the academic achievements of students in grades nine through 11 on Monday, May 18 in an event that recognized the depth and breadth of students’ contributions.
The event, held prior to the start of the final All School Meeting of the academic year, marked the first time in recent memory underclass students were celebrated in their own ceremony. Previously, awards recognizing students in ninth through 11th grade for their achievements in the classroom were bestowed as part of the Senior Class Award Ceremony held later in the week.

“In the excitement of all that’s poured into the end of this week, including graduation, baccalaureate, the athletics banquet, and senior solos, we’re carving our time for an awards ceremony where we honor our non-graduating students for exemplary achievement,” Head of School Tyler Lewis P’28 said. “While the end of the week is truly about crossing the finish line, the excellence of those returning deserves its moment on centerstage.”
