To inform day families of weather delays and cancellations, we use the familiar Blackbaud Pushpage bulk email system to reach area families. We also post advisories on the Kimball Union website and portals, and advise local radio and television stations.
Winter road conditions in the local area can vary greatly. We urge day students and families to use caution and make “safety first” decisions when it comes to winter driving, especially for younger drivers. We ask day parents to assess road conditions in their immediate area, consider local school closings, and, if necessary, keep children home when it is unsafe to drive. If you do decide to keep your child home, please contact the school immediately so we can properly account for each student. Please call (603) 469-2000 before 8 a.m. or email Kathy Langevin.

As a matter of course, classes will be held regardless of weather for boarding students and any day students or commuting faculty who can travel safely to campus. On occasion, we may delay the opening of school to allow additional time for day students to arrive for classes.

Day students who for safety reasons do not travel to campus, are expected to monitor their school portals and email for information from teachers about how they might be able to participate in or complete the class work for the day. Faculty will be aware of students who are not in attendance for safety reasons and will work with them to get caught up on any class material missed.

If weather conditions worsen during a class day, we may make the decision to release day students early. In the event of an early dismissal, we will not release a student until we hear directly from a parent. Parents who decide to pick a student up early or want a child to be released early due to weather should contact Kathy Langevin in the Student Life Office at (603) 469-2000. In severe weather conditions, we can also make accommodations available on campus for students who need to stay over night.

If the decision is made to release day students early, we will post a notice on the homepage of our website www.kua.org, on the portals, and send notification by bulk email.
