Candidates for the Morehead Award must show evidence of outstanding achievement in leadership, scholarship, moral force of character and physical vigor. The foundation seeks top high school students who are dynamic young leaders in their schools and communities with high academic rankings. Any senior in high school in North Carolina may be nominated, but only selected schools outside of North Carolina may be invited to nominate deserving candidates. Secondary schools outside of North Carolina become eligible to nominate for The Morehead only by invitation of the Morehead Foundation. Kimball Union was delighted to be invited to join this select group of schools earlier this year. Ann Kobylenski is KUA's first Morehead Award nominee.
Recipients of The Morehead Award receive a fully-funded four-year undergraduate scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Included are tuition, books, room and board, a laptop computer, a stipend for spending money each semester, and participation for five summers in an enrichment program.
Ann adds this recognition to a list of others during her time at Kimball Union. She is a Mount Holyoke and Wellesley Book Prize recipient, a Cullman scholar, recipient the Simon Harrold Award for excellence in theatre and math and she is an academic leader.
The Morehead Foundation selects its award recipient in late March. KUA congratulates Ann on this impressive nomination!
