Kimball Union Academy Awards Scholarships

Two Plainfield Elementary School Graduates, Ainsley MacDonald and Benjamin Hollander Recognized at Graduation Ceremony

Two eighth grade graduates from the Plainfield Elementary School were awarded scholarships at a graduation ceremony held at Kimball Union Academy on Friday, June 16, 2006.

KUA Director of Admissions Rachel Tilney and Director of Alumni Relations Rob Constantine presented the Townsend Scholarship to Ainsley MacDonald. Established in 1988 in honor of Sara and Ira Townsend, former faculty members of Kimball Union and longtime residents of Meriden, to honor their commitment to the school and the Plainfield community. The Townsend Scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving student from the Plainfield Elementary School who attends Kimball Union Academy and demonstrates a commitment to their education and their community.

The Josh and Ben Putnam Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of these young men who perished along with their parents Lee and Michele Putnam in a tragic fire in Meriden on December 7, 2005. This scholarship was spearheaded by the boys’ grandparents and relatives and funded through their generous support and that of family, community members and friends. It will be awarded each year to a deserving Plainfield Elementary School student entering the ninth grade at Kimball Union Academy. The recipient is identified by the Kimball Union admissions office and selection committee as having great potential which may be best realized by attending KUA. The first recipient of this scholarship, awarded by Josh and Ben Putnam’s grandmother, Marcia Woodbury, is Ben Hollander.

Founded in 1813, Kimball Union Academy is an independent college preparatory boarding and day school for 310 students in grades 9-12 and PG located in Meriden, New Hampshire.
