Skiathon

2/1 The Nordic Ski Team had a great day on Wednesday in a wild event called Skiathalon. In this race the skiers begin with a mass start, all 100+ skiers funnelling onto two tracks after 100m, they ski classic technique for a few kilometers, and mid-race actually switch skis and poles and ski freestyle (skate) technique for the final lap.  On super-fast snow there were lots of wipe-outs and tangled skiers, but it was a great race.  The KUA skiers handled the intensity well, dealing with mass start, exchange zone and a challenging course.

In the boys race, KUA's scoring finishers were George Heinrichs (13th), Pete Abdu (16th ), Daniel Small (17th) and Nick Powell ( 21st).  The Boys Team will have tough time catching the strong VA and Holderness teams this season, but we are shooting for 3rd in the league, and just missed it letting the SPS boys squeak by us on Wednesday.  This still left us beating Proctor, Andover, Putney and Cardigan.
In the girls race, the KUA ladies managed to trip during the mass start, taking out the whole team!  Back on their feet, the girls gave chase and skied some wonderfully aggressive laps, catching most of the field.  Still, they ended a somewhat disappointing 5th, in a close run for 4th. Kalin Gregory-Davis was our top scorer in 18th, followed by Kelly O'Leary in 20th, Lauren Lenz in 21st, and Rosalie Lipfert in 24th.
Also racing well in the boys race were Davis McGraw (29th), Allen Abendroth (32nd), Mike Wolf (35th), Sam Thomason (39th), Orson Webber-McColloum, and Batt Burns (49th).
