Malcolm Fraser MacLean III, age 79 of Swampscott, died December 9, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. He was the husband of Deborah (Eagan) MacLean, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Born in Salem, Malcolm was the son of the late Malcolm F. MacLean, Jr. and Mary (Philbin) MacLean.
He attended Swampscott schools and later graduated from Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH. Malcolm received his Bachelor of Arts from Colby College and his Juris Doctorate from New England School of Law. He practiced law for over 40 years and was a Partner at MacLean Holloway Doherty & Sheehan in Peabody.
Malcolm dedicated his life to public service. He was a member of the Danvers Kiwanis Club for 43 years and served as past president. He was also a Trustee of St. Johns Preparatory School in Danvers, a member and former chairman of the North Shore Chamber of Commerce and a member and past president of the Essex County Bar Association. Malcolm also proudly held the title of the 22nd Chieftain of the MacLeans of Kingairloch.
Malcolm is also survived by his son, Malcolm F. MacLean IV and his wife, Mimi, of Pacific Palisades, CA; his daughter-in-law, Hadley MacLean, wife of his late son, Douglas F. MacLean, of Marblehead; and his sister, Jean MacLean, of New York City. Malcolm was always happiest on the sea or throwing a ball to one of his nine grandchildren, Malcolm V, Gretchen, Tucker, Kathryn, Lilly, Grace, Graham, James and Finny, all of whom lovingly referred to him as their GrandBuddy. He will be forever missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial mass on Saturday, January 12, 2018 at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott.
