Heinritz Propels Wildcats to Big Victory in Semis; KUA Wins Holiday Tournament!
Kimball Union 2, Rivers School 1
Senior Alex Heinritz's breakaway goal with 20 seconds left in the third period broke a 1-1 tie and allowed the Kimball Union Academy boys' varsity hockey team to knock off a strong Rivers team, 2-1, in semi-final action in the Nichols/Belmont Hill Holiday Tournament in Buffalo, NY on Friday. Sophomore Logan Cash opened the scoring for KUA with a breakaway goal in the second before Rivers answered with a rebound goal that tied the game near the end of the period. In the third, some key saves from junior goalie Sean Dynan and some relentless puck pursuit by KUA paid off in the end, as Heinritz was able to sneak behind the Rivers defense and take a pass from junior Nik Armstrong for the breakaway. After freezing the Rivers goalie, Heinritz placed a perfect shot over the goalie's right pad to seal the win, and a birth in the tournament final, for the Wildcats.
