Wildcats Top St. Francis

Kimball Union 9, St. Francis School 0

In its second game of the day on Wednesday, the Kimball Union boys’ varsity hockey team rolled to a 9-0 win over St. Francis School in the Nichols-Belmont Hill tournament in Buffalo, NY. Sophomore defenseman Jordan Harris opened the scoring with a short-handed goal on an excellent individual effort that saw him intercept a pass in the neutral zone before skating into the St. Francis zone and beating the goalie over the shoulder with a wrist shot. KUA’s special teams continued to do damage in the first period as senior Paul McAuliffe netted a power-play goal with a strong shot from the top of the circle. KUA led 2-0 after one period and broke the game open in the second when Arlo Merritt, Logan Cash, Alex Heinritz, and Andranik Armstrong all scored to put KUA up 6-0 after two periods. The third period saw KUA continue the attack, with Heinritz netting his second of the game and Kyle Penney scoring twice on one shift to round out the offense. Junior goalie Hugo Turcotte earned the shutout in goal for KUA and, though not called upon often, came up with some big saves, including a breakaway save with seconds remaining. The Wildcats now hold a 13-1 record on the season.
