Wildcats Gut Out Draw
Briefly, the JV Girls' Soccer team avenged an earlier defeat to a skilled and fast Hanover High School Reserve team through an equalizing goal by Erin Gregory-Davis late in the first half. The game was played on the turf, in the rain, and both teams struggled to maintain possession of the ball under slick and fast conditions. The game was a study in defending, as both sides had, time and again, to repel opponent's sorties. Standout performances today from a gutsy and game KUA team include a terrific second half from junior back Lilly Brownell, tireless midfield play by sophomore Tina Nguyen, and determined wing play from freshman Alicia Goodwin. Goodwin's runs down the flank unbalanced the Hanover back line and created several excellent chances for the girls from Meriden. Also worthy of note was the leadership provided by sweeper Lexi Uryase. Lex's encouragement and solid play in the back helped secure the victory. And finally, freshman Lindsay Peckham played 4 different positions, including striker, and did so with great skill and determination.
