Gregory-Davis Nets a Trio in Win
One van of players - 13 athletes - headed to Wilton, NH today to take on the full varsity team from High Mowing. And while the girls from H.M. were both spirited and disciplined, in the end the Wildcats proved too athletic and skilled for a hearty High Mowing team. With both skill and determination, the JV Girls' blasted home 5 to score a solid victory over a worthy foe. This was an emotional day. Traveling with only 13 players, the bar was set quite high. Two substitues for 80 minutes of the world's most beautiful game. The girls from Meriden were up to the challenge. The Wildcats tallied first on a lovely volley by Erin Gregory-Davis from the top of the 18. HM quickly equalized on a nice run against the flow of play and a top notch finish low and to the corner. From about the midway point in the first half, however, the Wildcats switched from cruise control and into overdrive, and soon the game was out of reach. An own goal on a terrific cross from senior Laura Robertello another Gregory-Davis tally, and KUA went into the half with a 3-1 advantge. KUA boosted the lead to 4-1 early in the second frame, as Erin Gregory-Davis found the net one more time to complete her hat trick. Rose Abendroth, playing in the field for the first time this season, ended any hopes for a HM comeback by slotting home a sweet toepoke into the old onion basket: final score, 5-2. All 13 players contributed to today's win, with particularly noteworthy efforts from Goalkeeper Halle Clark, Striker Christina Ryan and Sweeper Lexi Uryase. Senior Captian Aly Young had a tremendous match, playing 70 minutes of aggressive, high pressure soccer. Congrats to the Wildcats on a good win!
