Wildcats Beat New Hampton, Advance to Lakes Region Finals

The top-seeded Wildcats belted 22 hits, including four home runs, en route to beating #4 New Hampton School 21-3 in the semi-finals of the Lakes Region playoffs on Tuesday in Meriden. Several Wildcats had big days at the plate, led by Leila Portugal who had a grand slam and five RBIs overall. Anna Baker, Stella Prieto, Kennedy FitzSimons, Avy Arias, Bailey Cassin, Gabi Young, Olivia Parker, and Aiyonna Gay all had multi-hit games for KUA. Arias, Prieto, and FitzSimons went yard in the process, with the home runs by Prieto and FitzSimons coming on back-to-back pitches to lead off the second inning. Cassin went all four innings in the circle, giving up just one hit while striking out 11. With the win, KUA secures its fifth consecutive appearance in the Lakes Region championship game, which will take place on Wednesday at 4:00. The game has been moved to St. Paul's school because of forecasted rain in Meriden.
