2026-2027 Assistant Athletic Director

Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced, student-centered Assistant Athletic Director to join our community as a full-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill KUA’s mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. Through intentionally designed experiences and challenges, our students develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.” 
This position provides administrative leadership and management to the Athletics Department.
 
ABOUT THE POSITION 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
 
  • Assist the Athletic Director in supervising athletic programs, including recommending policies and procedures relating to the athletic programs.
  • Provide administrative leadership and management to the athletics department.
  • Assist the Athletic Director in developing and coordinating athletic schedules and official schedules for all contests. Assist with events set up and break down for game days.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and student athletes within the athletic department and the KUA community to ensure cohesive teamwork, effective communication, and successful implementation of departmental initiatives and events.
  • Coordinate transportation for all athletic contests and all school events or requests.
  • Ensure compliance with all NEPSAC rules.
  • Represent the department on committees and at various events and do the work necessary for the department to remain successful.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, including but not limited to special projects and events, team collaboration efforts and administrative tasks.
  • Coach, recruit for, and develop a varsity-level sports with preference for field hockey or girls’ lacrosse.
  • Coach an additional season of sports, girls Field Hockey or Lacrosse preferred.
  • Assist the Athletic Director in the supervision of all contests, coordination of support personnel for all athletic contests, including game management.
  • Create material to publicize for athletics and sporting events, (Instagram, Website)
  • Manage all team rosters both for internal and external use.
  • Manage the database for activity signups from season to season.
  • Work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all.
  • Open to learning and utilizing the principles of KUA Design within the classroom, coaching, advising and within the residential program.
  • Advise a small cohort of students.
  • Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends.
  • Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective coaching, communication, and management practices.
  • Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum and participate in committee work as requested by school leadership.
 
 QUALIFICATIONS 
  • 1-5 years of experience in an athletics department.
  • 1-5 years of coaching girls' Field Hockey or Lacrosse at the high school or college level.
  • Demonstrated organizational and operational skills with the ability to coach multiple sports at the high school level.
  • Superior interpersonal skills facilitating effective collaboration and teamwork.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • 1-5 years (or more) of experience coaching, teaching, or working with high school aged students.
  • Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department.
  • Facility with educational LMS portals, Mac OS, Mircrosoft365, Google apps, and other education-enhancing products.
  • Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues.
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Student-centered educator with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people.
