The girls varsity
hockey team travelled to NMH's half indoor, half outdoor rink on this
unusually warm winter day. The girls came out of the locker hungry for
their first victory and ready to play. Lauren Fischelis put KUA on the board just 40 seconds into the game,
as she charged the net and put a rebound past the NMH goaltender. KUA
did not keep the lead very long, as NMH capitilized on an odd man rush
just a few minutes later to tie the game 1-1. The Wildcats bounced
right back when Kellie Joyce was given a pass from Gilly Herbert in the
Neutral Zone, Joyce skated it past the defensemen and put the puck top
shelf over the goalies right shoulder. KUA ended the period with a 2-1
lead. The third period contained multiple questionable calls from the
referees, including two goals called back, but the girls did not lose
their focus. NMH got a fluke goal when a shot from the point was
deflected off of a stick into the top corner of the net. NMH had tied
the game a second time, making it 2-2. Just seconds later, Kelly Joyce
took the puck from the face off and skated into the Hoggers zone. She
fired the puck into the net with the game winning goal, her second of
the night. KUA 3, NMH 2. KUA looks to their next home game this
Friday against Proctor at 5pm. Come and show your support for the
girls varsity hockey team!
