Mike Olson currently serves as Assistant Director of College Advising and Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Kimball Union Academy.
Olson has guided the Wildcats to seven consecutive winning seasons along with five post-season appearances. The 2013-14 season was a banner year for KUA as they produced an overall 21-7 mark and advanced to the NEPSAC championship game.
In 2014 Olson coached the Under 18 US Select to a silver medal in the Albert Schweitzer Tournament, Mannheim, Germany. Along the way the team defeated number one ranked FIBA team Spain.
Prior to joining the prep school ranks Olson spent twenty years coaching at the collegiate level—with stops at Dartmouth College, Minnesota State Moorhead, Black Hills State, and Mount Senario College. Olson lead BHSU to four NAIA national tournaments and he was elected to their Hall of Fame in 2011. A noted teacher of basketball fundamentals, Olson has developed an international presence while conducting camps and clinics in Scotland, England, Iceland, Sweden, Australia, and Greece.
Olson, a Tomahawk, WI native, received his bachelor’s degree from St. Norbert College (1981) and a master’s degree in education from Norwich University (1982). He also holds an advanced study certificate in educational leadership from Upper Valley Educator’s Institute, Lebanon, NH.
