They got off to a slow start but found their offensive touch late in the first half to take a 9 point lead at the half, 39-30. Holderness battled back and went up by one midway in the second half, only to see KUA pull away, in the end, to win by eight. Enoch Cheeks had a game-high 37 points for the night, Will Engelhardt followed with 18, and Trey Parker joined them in double figures with 14. Shooting over 60% from the field for the game the Tilton Rams were 12-17 from beyond the arc in the first half alone as they built a 23 point lead at the half 52-29. The Wildcats then stepped up at both ends of the courts in the second half, holding the Rams to 36 second-half points while scoring 43. Will Engelhardt lead KUA in scoring with 24 points, followed closely by Enoch Cheeks with 22. The Wildcats return home to play Holderness School on Monday afternoon at 3:30 pm.

The Wildcats struggled to find any tempo in the game, trailing by six at the half, 40-34. They put on a spurt to tie it early in the second half at 44 all only to see Bradford recover to led by seven. KUA battled back again late in the half to make it a three-point deficit with a minute left but failed to connect on two three at the end to lose by 5. Kimball Union traveled up to Maine to take on Gould Academy. The Wildcats made it a close game for most of the night, down 5 at the half and down 3 with just over ten minutes to play in the game. Gould's depth took its toll in the final ten minutes as the outscored KUA 32- 17 down the stretch to win 79-61. Enoch Cheeks had a game-high 32 points and was joined in double figures by Will Engelhardt with 19. The Wildcats have a quick turnaround as they travel down to Bradford Academy for a game Monday afternoon. The Wildcats record now stands at 8-7 for the season.

The Wildcats took on AA rival Proctor Academy today and went to two overtimes before falling just short, losing 91-88. Proctor jumped out to a 12-0 lead at the start, but KUA chipped away and cut it to three at the half 32-29. The second half was close throughout, but Proctor pushed their lead to three with the clock running down only to see KUA's Marc Dolgin hit a three to take it to overtime. Again Dolgin hit a three to tie it as the first overtime came to a close, but Proctor was able to pull out the win in the second overtime. Enoch Cheeks had a game-high 35 points for the Wildcats followed by Dolgin with 21 and Will Engelhart with 18. The Wildcats will travel to Gould Academy for a 4:30 pm game on Saturday. Trey Parker's season-high 27 points and Will Engelhardt's 24 helped push the Wildcats to a two-point win over GTA Prep, 77-75. Down nine midway through the second half, the Wildcats battled back to take a 5 point lead late in the game and win by two as GTA Prep hit a three at the buzzer. KUA's second-half success was due largely in part to points at the charity line with Parker hitting 8-8 and Engelhardt 8-9 in the second stanza alone. Enoch Cheeks added18 points 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the night. AA rival Proctor Academy arrives in town to take on the Wildcats next Wednesday.

Kimball Union shot 60% from the field tonight with four players in double figures. Kimball Union boys basketball team traveled down to Saxton’s River to take on AA rival Vermont Academy. The KUA Wildcats put up a good fight but lost in the end, 87-72. Vermont jumped out to a 20-8 lead at the start but KU whittled that down to a 6 point deficit at the half, 42-36 behind Enoch Cheeks’ 20 first-half points. Vermont pushed the lead to double digits in the third quarter only to see the Wildcats fight back and make it a 7 point deficit with 3 minutes to play in the game. This was the closest KUA could muster as Vermont won in the end by 15. Will Engelhardt played a strong second half on the offensive end scoring 16 of his game total 22 pts. Cheeks ended the game with a team-high 24 pts. Mark Dolgin hit 4-8 from beyond the arc for 12pts for the game. The Wildcats return to action home on Saturday vs Wilbraham. The Kimball Union Wildcats returned to action after their holiday break to take on Class AA rival Cushing Academy at home today. In a hard fought battle the Wildcats fell short in the end losing by seven, 66-59. Kimball Union tied the game at 53 all with five minute to play only to run out of gas at the finish. Trey Parker had his best game of the season so far, hitting 5 out of 9 from behind the arc, finishing with 18 pts for the night. Enoch Cheeks scored 11 of his game high 19 points in the second half. The Wildcats redeemed themselves with a solid performance defeating Beaver Country Day School 83-45 to finish third in the Rivers Holiday Tournament today. Shooting 1-10 from beyond the arc in the first half KUA took a five point lead into the locker room, 30-25. They then exploded in the second half starting with a 16-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Wildcats found their outside touch hitting 10 of 16 second-half three-point shots, scoring 53 points to win 83-45. Enoch Ckeeks lead all scorers for the night with 30 pts. Joining him in double figures was Jammy Pierre-Louis (18 pts) and Jay Elmore (16pts). The Wildcat take a 6-2 record into next week to finish out before the holidays. Playing in their second game of the day the Wildcats took host Rivers down to the wire before losing 71-69 in the end. Kimball Union had an early lead of ten cut to three at the half and then were exchanging the lead for much of the final stanza before Rivers hit four consecutive threes late in the game to pull ahead. Jay Elmore, hitting 5 threes, was the game highscorer with 25 points, followed closely by Enoch Cheeks (23 pts), and Will Engelhardt (11pts). Jammy Pierre-Louis' 16 first half points started the Wildcats off on the right foot and Enoch Cheeks' 16 second half points helped seal the deal as Kimball Union defeated Williston today 71-59 at the Scholar Roundball Classic at Babson College. KUA took a ten point lead into the locker room at the half, 40-30, survived an early run by Williston at the start of the second half to then build their lead back up to ten at the end. Cheeks lead all scorers with 28 points; Pierre-Louis hitting five threes added 19 points, and Jay Elmore joined them in double figures with 13. The Wildcats play their second game of the Classic tomorrow morning at 9:30 versus Andover Academy.
A solid team defensive performance by the Wildcats held Exeter to 20 first half points as Enoch Cheeks scored 27 of his game high 34 points in the first half to pace the Wildcats to a win over Exeter today, 70-47. The Wildcats went up by 15 as the first half ended, 35-20, but had to survive a determined comeback by Deerfield in the second half as they cut KUA’s lead to three midway into the fourth quarter. Will Engelhardt hit two threes and went 9 for 10 from the foul line in the second half to help KUA preserve their win. Enoch Cheeks again lead KUA in scoring with 26 for the game. Jay Elmore went 5-7 from beyond the arc, scoring 19pts and Will Engelhart was close behind with 17. KUA returns to action on Wednesday playing at Exeter. In a fast paced match KUA jumped out to an 8 point lead at the half 47-39 behind Enoch Cheek’s 20 first half points. Cheeks finished up the night with a game high 34 points. The Wildcats opened up their lead late in the second half hitting 9 of their 12 three pointers. Jay Elmore kicked in scoring 27 points and Will Engelhardt had a solid night at both ends of the court finishing with 22 points. Mike Olson currently serves as Assistant Director of College Advising and Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Kimball Union Academy.
Olson has guided the Wildcats to seven consecutive winning seasons along with five post-season appearances. The 2013-14 season was a banner year for KUA as they produced an overall 21-7 mark and advanced to the NEPSAC championship game.
In 2014 Olson coached the Under 18 US Select to a silver medal in the Albert Schweitzer Tournament, Mannheim, Germany. Along the way the team defeated number one ranked FIBA team Spain.
Prior to joining the prep school ranks Olson spent twenty years coaching at the collegiate level—with stops at Dartmouth College, Minnesota State Moorhead, Black Hills State, and Mount Senario College. Olson lead BHSU to four NAIA national tournaments and he was elected to their Hall of Fame in 2011. A noted teacher of basketball fundamentals, Olson has developed an international presence while conducting camps and clinics in Scotland, England, Iceland, Sweden, Australia, and Greece.
Olson, a Tomahawk, WI native, received his bachelor’s degree from St. Norbert College (1981) and a master’s degree in education from Norwich University (1982). He also holds an advanced study certificate in educational leadership from Upper Valley Educator’s Institute, Lebanon, NH.
