KUA takes Stanstead in Opener
The Kimball Union Wildcats, defending NEPSAC champions, began the 2017-18 season with a win over Stanstead College (Quebec) on Saturday. KUA opened the scoring in the first period on a powerplay goal by senior Andranik Armstrong and preserved the 1-0 lead through the first period thanks in large part to timely saves from senior goalie Sean Dynan. In the second, Armstrong struck again with a wonderful individual effort but Stanstead scored soon after to halve the KUA lead. In the third, however, KUA took control of the game and pummeled the Stanstead net with shot after shot until junior Drew Bennett scored in his first game as a Wildcat, burying a rebound from fellow junior Arlo Merritt. KUA kept pressing and Dynan stood tall when Stanstead pushed back and junior Logan Cash added an empty-net goal to seal the win.
