Sherman Lyon "Sir" Baldwin

Sherman Lyon "Sir" Baldwin 87, of Bass River, Peru, VT, formerly of Greenwich, CT, died peacefully March 5, 2015 at his home on Cape Cod after a brief illness. He had spent the previous weekend celebrating his birthday with family and friends. Sherman, or Sir, as he was known to many, was born in Boston, the son of the late Sherman and Eleanor (Lyon) Baldwin. He attended Worcester Academy, Kimball Union Academy, and Dartmouth College. He served two tours of duty with the United States Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict, for which he was most proud. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1951. A songwriter and aspiring novelist, Sherman was a born prankster and joker, and rarely left a room without a trail of laughter. He was an accomplished athlete, playing football, hockey and baseball throughout school. He was an avid golfer who could play, talk or watch golf all day long. Sherman began his career as a radio announcer on WEIM - Worcester. He later joined the Worcester Telegram and Gazette as a reporter where he met his fun-loving wife, Beth Tucker. They married in August 1954 and enjoyed 54 years of marriage until Beth's death in 2008. When his business took him to New York City in 1964, the family moved to Greenwich, CT, where they resided for 39 years until his retirement from Arcata Graphics in 2003. Both Sherman and Beth enjoyed spending time with their four children and twelve grandchildren who adored them. Sherman is survived by his four children, Lisa Berizzi and her husband, Louis, and Anne Castine and her husband, Michael, both of Greenwich, CT, Sherman Baldwin, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Sarasota, Florida, and Tucker Murphy and her husband, John of New Canaan, CT; twelve grandchildren, Maggie Berizzi Stewart, Annabelle, and Louis Berizzi Jr, Ellie, Peter and Charlie Castine, Sarah and Sherman Baldwin III, Laura Suarino, Abbey Gaspard, and Will and Rachel Murphy; four great grandchildren, with two on the way; his sister, Sally B. Utiger of Weston; many nieces and nephews; and countless cherished friends including, Monique Crowley and her family of Barnstable.
