Burt Moran Keene Jr.

Burt Moran Keene Jr., 69, passed away at home Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and listening to his favorite records at the time of his passing.

Born on Aug. 8, 1949 in Glens Falls, New York, Burt was the son of the late Evelyn Buckley Keene and Burt Moran Keene Sr. Burt attended Glens Falls High School and graduated from Kimball Union Academy in 1967, and Utica College in 1972.

Burt is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shelley R. Keene; daughter, Lauren L. Keene and her partner, Michael Pentico; daughter, Haley Keene Holland and son-in-law, Matt Holland, and grandson, Bode Holland; his sister, Susan Morse and brother-in-law Philip Morse; and sister, Nancy MacBride and brother-in-law Mac Macbride.

He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Keene.

Burt married his high school sweetheart, Shelley Rouillard Keene, in 1974. Burt and Shelley founded a successful catering business, The Poppy Seed, operating it for 13 years. Burt later worked for NAMIC (Angiodynamics) until his retirement.

Burt was known as a stellar man, a wonderful father and a great friend with a keen sense of humor. He carried himself with an effortless kindness, a sharp wit and a stoic gentleness that made him a quick friend to everyone he met. A man of many talents and the architect of a good time, Burt was a pioneer of friend and family traditions in Glens Falls, Middle Granville, his father’s hunting camp in Tupper Lake, New York and Drakes Island, Maine.

A private service will be held for family in Glens Falls.
