William P. Stone
William Patrick Stone, aged 78 years old, of Bedford N.H. died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, August 4th 2008. William was born on April 17, 1930 in Manchester. He was the son of the late Henry and Catherine Stone of Manchester and the brother of Henry (deceased), Daniel (deceased) and David Stone.
He graduated from Kimball Union Academy and the University of New Hampshire where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War. He took a great deal of pride in growing his business, Stone and Michaud Insurance, which he operated for over thirty years.
In his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, going to the YMCA in Manchester and playing golf at the Manchester Country Club. He was an avid reader and loved to work on the landscaping in his yard. Williiam spent the last 45 years as a resident of Bedford. He developed strong ties to the community through his service on various Boards of local institutions such as the United Way of Greater Manchester, Merchants National Bank, Citizens Bank, National Bank of Ireland and the Derryfield School . He was also a trustee of the Federated Arts of Manchester and the University of New Hampshire.
He leaves his wife of 45 years, Claire(Cote) Stone. He is survived by his daughter Susan and her husband Timothy of Hingham, Ma. He is also survived by his son Sean and his wife Amy of Mclean Va. He was a loving grandfather to William, Owen, Padraic, Griffin, Ben and Emma. He will be missed by many. Services will be private.
