Wash, Rinse, Repeat

We arrived in Andover ready to take on Proctor for the second and last time this year.  In our last match, we had ended with a 1-1 tie.  We felt confident.

In the first period, we dominated most of the play.  Our defensive line with, the addition of Michael Jung, was stellar, and Henry Steffen kept the net empty of goals.  We had seven corner kicks and at least ten shots on net, but most of them went wide or over the goal.  At the half, the score was tied 0-0.

In the thirteenth minute of the second half, Adi Lesbek beat the right winger and brought the ball deep into the defensive half.  He sent the ball to Devon, who spun and passed it to an awaiting Marek.  Marek took the shot and scored.  The bench went wild!  It was a beautiful play.  We continued to drive and shoot.  But Proctor sent a chip in behind our defensive line.  Henry made a diving deflection, but an unmarked forward recovered the ball and tied things up.

We were quickly back in Proctor’s end and drew a direct kick outside the box.  But before Adi could take the shot, a Proctor player refused to move from in front of the ball.  Instead of the usual yellow card for unsportsmanlike behavior he was told he should not do it again.  Unfortunately, this changed the momentum of the game.  Our direct kick went wide, and on their next play, they earned a corner kick.  They sent a beautiful cross that was headed in on the far side.

Tempers began to flare, and soon KUA earned a yellow, and Proctor earned three.

Although we made three more shots on net, we never recovered, and the game ended with a 1-2 loss.

Saturday, we meet Cardigan on their campus for our second match of the season.
