Beautiful Day For a Game

Darrell Beaupre
Saturday was, if anything, on the warm side for this time of year.  The sun was out and there was no breeze.  We were slated to play again on Pope Field.  While playing away, we have been 100% successful against teams while playing on their turf; however, at home, we have been 50%.  Today’s game proved a disappointment and we have dropped our winning percentage to 33%.  Hopefully, next time we will be on grass.

There’s not much to report when our team loses 0-4.  Both teams looked well-matched.  Eaglebrook shut down our first drive.  We should have been paying better attention when their first dump-and-run play almost cost us a goal.  A minute later, with three minutes spent, they dumped the ball to a very quick #10, who got in close and scored.  Six minutes later, he did the same thing again.

The game was not going as we wanted.  Bleyton Hobbs-Thompson was making saves, but he was working too hard.  Coach and I conversed and decided to put one of our fastest players, Devon LeBlanc, to mark #10 man-to-man.  This kept Devon hustling for the entire game, but it solved the problem of #10 scoring again.  However, with fifteen minutes left in the half, Eaglebrook got in very close and shot point blank on Bleyton to put them up by three.

We were down at the end of the half and just wanted to get on the board while keeping them from adding to their score.  We did the latter successfully for the first six minutes of the second half.  Again, they got in close and blasted the ball into the net.

For the next 34 minutes, we had our chances but couldn’t seem to put anything inside the net.  However, with Devon all over #10 and making some sick headers, we kept them from scoring anymore goals.

It was a disappointing loss, but we now need to focus on our next match which will be this Wednesday at home against Proctor Academy.
