KUA Prevails Over Shattuck-St. Mary's

In a battle of perennial hockey powerhouses, Wildcats’ junior Bryce Bollman scored with 50 seconds remaining to give Kimball Union a 4-3 victory over Shattuck-St. Mary’s of Minnesota at Merrimack College on Sunday. After falling behind 1-0 early, the Wildcats evened the score midway through the first when senior Paul Dore eluded a check and made a nice pass to sophomore Adam Fantilli, who beat the Shattuck goalie with a wrist shot. Bollman also earned an assist on the play. In the second, Shattuck retook the lead, but a powerplay goal by senior Sullivan Mack, set up by Dore and senior Tomas Mazura, tied the game heading into the third. Mazura, on a setup from Mack and fellow senior Zach Whitehead, put the Wildcats up 3-2 just minutes into the final frame. KUA made the lead stand, but a late penalty led to a Shattuck powerplay goal, setting the stage for Dore and Fantilli to set up Bollman for the game-winner. Senior goalie Veeti Kohvakka (43 saves) stood tall for KUA, making several key saves on five Shattuck powerplays.
