Wildcats Battle Back, but Fall in OT

After battling back all game and tying the game at six with two minutes to play, the Kimball Union Wildcats eventually fell in 3-on-3 overtime to Northwood school in Stanstead, Quebec on Sunday. Sophomore Adam Fantilli led the way with a hat-trick for KUA and senior Sullivan Mack scored twice. Junior defenseman Nic Bernardo scored his first goal in KUA uniform. Trailing 1-0 in the first, the Wildcats tied the game when Mack converted a feed from senior Tomas Mazura. Northwood beat KUA goalie Zak Brice twice more in the first before Fantili took a pass from senior Paul Dore and beat the Northwood goalie with a wrist shot. Trailing 4-2 in the second, KUA got within one when Bernardo buried a rebound with a beautiful shot to the top corner. In the third, Northwood took a 5-3 lead but Fantilli and Mack scored to knot the game at five before Northwood took a 6-5 lead on the powerplay with three minutes to play. However, Fantilli completed the hat-trick a minute later when he collected his own rebound and deposited a forehand into the net, thus sending the game into overtime. In the extra frame, KUA had plenty of chances but a favorable bounce Northwood’s way led to the breakaway winner.
