The Wildcats Play a Skilled Game but Fall to the Bobcats: 1-0
The Varsity Field Hockey team traveled to Brewster Academy to play their Lakes Region rivals, the Bobcats. The Bobcats dominated play during the first 20 minutes of the game. They earned 8 corners but the Wildcat defense marked up, contained the ball, and was patient. Sophomore Liz Colannino, sophomore Lexi Nottke, and freshman Corren Carley played great games on defense and supported the ball up the field. Brewster’s Oberlander scored the lone goal of the game with 47 seconds remaining in the first half. Senior captain Maya Karosas took the ball in the remaining seconds down the right side for a beautiful cross on front of the net, freshman Mia Brown was ready and hit it just wide of the net for the tying goal.
In the second half, both teams created scoring opportunities. The Wildcats possessed the ball in their offensive circle and earned 5 penalty corners. The Bobcats fought them off with tenacious sticks and smart defense by the goalie. Wildcat goalie, Sofia DiAntonio, finished with 5 saves in goal. The Wildcats played a solid 60 minutes and with great sportsmanship.
