Everyone has put forth her best effort last Saturday but the weather did not cooperate. Kimball Union JV girls stepped up bravely on the courts to face Vermont Academy’s varsity tennis team. This task made some athletes nervous, however, Meghan St Pierre said it “ my opponent made me play better”. Even though Meghan has lost her singles game she felt good about how she played. I am glad to see that attitude amongst our players.
Kelly (Thu Do) our number 3 single won her game and requested that she double up for her next game feeling more confident to play singles and doubles. Nobody can stand a chance against her furious backhand.
Louise Zhang paired up with Lidia Huang, a more experienced player and took on VA’s 2d double’s team. Louise played like a pro, applying everything we did in practice at the net. They were winning by 2 points when we had to call the game due to a rain shower. It was really exciting, because the last team to play was our 3d double, Zoe and Erin, which were holding their own with a score tied to 6-6. These 2 athletes, both novices to the sport displayed a lively game of tennis, both with some mistakes but some great shots in the net, making their coach “dance” in her shoes.
There was also a nerve wrecking performance by Mc Kenzie Keegan, who came to support her team after being sick for a few days. MacKenzie lost her battle in a tiebreak, however I was impressed how she proved to herself and everyone that she is tougher than nails.
Unfortunately our number 2 single Maddie Belback was sick at home while Hanna Calores stepped up and won her game maintaining her status being undefeated in singles so far. Watch out for this freshman athlete!
