KUA Battles Hard In Exhibition Game vs. Stanstead

KUA Drops First Exhibition Game of Pre-Season in 2-1 Loss to Stanstead College
Despite a 2-1 defeat in the season opener, the KUA Girls’ Varsity Hockey team put on a show of tenacity for their hometown fans. From the opening faceoff, the girls put their first week of preparation into action with great compete and defense by committee versus a seasoned Stanstead team.  Senior goaltender Amelie Poirier was exceptional throughout, but she made her best saves in the 1st period to get the Wildcats through two penalty kills and preserve a 0-0 game after 20 minutes.
KUA pushed offensively in the 2nd period, but could not find the back of the net. Stanstead finally solved Poirier and took a 1-0 lead midway through the 2nd
Stanstead broke out to a 2-0 lead in the 3rd, but the girls maintained their resolve and were eventually rewarded. Freshman center Julia Surgenor pounced on a loose puck in the neutral zone and used her speed to break in all alone and score a beautiful top-shelf goal to make it a one goal game with plenty of time to play. The girls could not find the equalizer, but their effort and resolve mean good things to come for a group now gets a well-deserved rest over the Thanksgiving Break.
Girls’ Varsity Hockey exhibition season finishes with a game against Rice AAA on Wed., Dec. 4.
