Playing under blue skies at Holderness, KUA mounted a comeback in the 4th quarter, but still fell short in a close, 8-5 loss on Saturday. The Bulls jumped early on the Wildcats on their way to a 4-1 halftime lead. Holderness extended their lead to 6-1 in the third, but then the momentum shifted in the Wildcats’ favor. Eric Megnia scored three goals off an assist from Mike Robertello and two from Morgan Dewdney. Going into the fourth quarter, Holderness held a narrow 7-4 lead. Andrew Jarrett scored off a feed from Cam Beecy to cut the lead to 7-5 with eleven minutes remaining in the game. Moments later, a Wildcat shot glanced off the cross bar and sailed wide. Both teams fought back and forth as the Wildcats worked to make it a one-goal game. Alas, with just under three minutes remaining, Holderness scored to secure the three-goal victory.
KUA’s defensive trio of Chris Anderson, Matt Michaud, and Trey McDougall tightened up their play throughout the contest, forcing bad passes and much needed Wildcat possessions. Santiago Morales made 11 saves, including two acrobatic doorstop snuffs to keep the battle alive. Long poles Glenn Corey, Mike Powell, and Hunter Braswell fought hard between the restraining lines and defensive midfielders Cam Beecy, Owen Winslow, and Colman Lamb worked tirelessly throughout the game.
After a long weekend break, the Wildcats gear up again on Wednesday as they travel to Gould Academy.
