KUA traveled to Class A New Hampton School and found themselves with the lead until the last 5 minutes of the game. The Wildcats led 25-24 at the break thanks to terrific team defense, 22 rebounds and balanced scoring. KUA extended the lead to 7 behind a 3-ball by sophomore Shannon Walsh but the Huskies came storming back and took advantage of missed free throws by the Cats (9-for-21 for the game) to retake the lead. Co-captain Gretchen Schissel’s 3-point attempt rimmed out with a minute to play forcing the visitors to foul. New Hampton also had their share of shooting woes from the charity stripe (7-for-19), but they were able to hang on to the lead and come away with a 51-47 victory on their Senior Day.
Fiekah Fataar led all scorers with 22 points, 14 rebounds and 4 steals. Walsh contributed 17 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Becca DeTurk played an excellent all-around game dishing a team-high 4 assists.
KUA’s last regular-season game will be played on the road at The Governor’s Academy in Byfield, MA on Saturday at 2:30p.m.
