KUA improves to 10-6 with a 49-39 victory over Brewster Academy at home today. The Wildcats donned pink and battled throughout the game in honor those friends and relatives who have been affected by cancer.
The Bobcats had the upper hand in the opening minutes behind strong guard play by Fuller who netted 8 first half points. KUA freshman Miranda Judd helped shift the momentum when she knocked down a 3-pointer and then forced several Brewster turnovers as the point person in the press. Behind 15 points in the first stanza by senior Fiekah Fataar, the Cats built a 7 point lead heading in to the intermission.
No lead was big enough tonight, however, as Brewster came to play. KUA’s Shannon Walsh (13 points/5 rebounds) and Fataar (25 points/19 rebounds) controlled the paint. Jill Clark hit a huge three to push KUA’s quickly dwindling lead back to 10 with under 3 minutes to play while Becca DeTurk and Kaitie Sanders provided a defensive spark. Chloe Tyler (2), Jill Clark (4) and Gretchen Schissel (3) dished several pretty assists throughout today’s contest.
The team will honor its four seniors (Becca DeTurk, Gretchen Schissel, Fiekah Fataar and Dee Rodriguez) on Friday night before tipping off against St. Paul’s School at 5p.m.
