The girls JV Hockey team hosted Vermont Academy on Saturday. Facing Vermont for the second time this season, the girls played with confidence, but knew that they would have to work hard to secure a win. Our co-captains Erin Mattila and Katie Dole got the scoring started. First it was Mattila who scored halfway through the first period on a nice attack from the left wing. Next was Dole who scored with about three and a half minutes on a shot that their goalie never saw. Alison Pollard kept it going with a nice goal to the five hole after intercepting a pass in Vermont's zone with about a minute left in the period. In the second period, the Wildcats continued to dominate, barely giving Vermont any opportunities to get the puck out of their zone. Despite the territorial domination and some excellent passing the period remained scoreless. In the third period, some players moved from offense to defense and vice versa. All three goals in the third period came from players who switched positions. First it was Storm Sideleau who walked right down the middle of the ice past three Vermont players and buried a shot from the top of the crease. Then, only 25 seconds later, Caitlyn Lowe unleashed the offensive fury she had been holding back all season as she beat a defender wide and scored on a nice wrist shot. Finally, it was Dole again. While playing at the point, she collected a loose puck, and fired it in from the top of the circle. Despite our our strong offense, Vermont had several opportunities of their own. In goal, Kate Dong faced her toughest challenges of the game during the third period, and she came up huge on a couple breakaways to earn her second shutout of the season. As our new players continue to improve, it was nice to see strong performances from Dorothy Li at right wing, Kristen Chen at defense and Ashley Tan who played a great game at forward getting a couple shots on net and winning some key battles for the puck. On Wednesday we play Holderness in Akerstrom at 3:45. We hope to see all our great fans make it out to support us again!
