Wildcats come back to defeat St Paul’s in 2OT

Meeting for the first time in a regular season game, KUA and St. Paul’s battled to a memorable 10-9 double overtime finish. With only 28 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, CJ Frates scored his fourth and final goal off a Drew Simoneau feed. The goal came only after Tim McNair made three point blank saves at the other end of the field to give the home team its final, and successful, shot at the game winner. KUA entered the fourth quarter down 9-7 and the momentum in favor of St Paul’s. The Wildcat defense, however, held strong on each St Paul’s possession.  McNair made clutch saves and Dennis Kravchenko, Miles Hancock, and Andrew Kelly shut down the visiting attack. In the midfield, Zabarle Kollie, Spencer King, Connor Bailey, Tommy O’Brien, and Ryan Lund forced their marks into poor shooting angles and transitioned the ball with ease to the offense.

Max Abendroth scored the eight KUA goal with just a little over four minutes remaining in the game and then Eric Wollrath, off a Chris Morse feed, tied the score with a little less than a minute remaining in regulation.  Frates led all scorers with four goals and one assist. Simoneau contributed two goals and two assists, while Morse dished out three assists, Abendroth threw two between the pipes, Wollrath scored his game tying goal, and Ian Timpone added a critical goal in the three quarter to keep the Wildcats’ hopes alive.
KUA (4-9) play Vermont Academy tomorrow.
