Strong second quarter propels Holderness to 10-6 win over Wildcats

KUA and Holderness clashed under sunny, warm skies. KUA goalie Tim McNair stopped 3 point blank shots in the opening minutes to allow the visiting Wildcats time to get their momentum.  The Wildcats struck first when Chris Morse fed Drew Simoneau on an extra man snipe to the upper left. Less than a minute later, Eric Wollrath converted a Sam Wyskiel feed to put KUA up 2-0. Holderness scored with just a little over a minute remaining in the first quarter to trim the lead. Early in the second quarter, Wollrath scored in transition off a pass from defender Andrew Kelly to widen the lead to 3-1. Holderness found their rhythm, however, and scored the following six unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead into the half.

The play evened out in the second half as both teams managed to score three. Holderness struck first, but then Simoneau, off a feed from attackman Ian Timpone, scored his second goal of the day to prevent the Bulls from extending their lead. At the end of three, Holderness led 8-4.  Again, both teams scored two apiece in the fourth quarter to give Holderness the win. Max Abendroth netted both goals, the first off a sharp pass from Chris Morse and the second when he picked off a pass on the Holderness clear.

Spencer King played aggressive long pole defense the entire game, scooping up 3 ground balls and forcing numerous turnovers in midfield. Miles Hancock, Andrew Kelly, and Connor Bailey kept sticks on the Holderness attacks’ gloves the entire game and Tim McNair continued to make big saves from start to finish.
KUA (2-5) travels to Gould Academy for a midweek contest.
