KUA gave a valiant effort against the #2 ranked Class A Huskies today but came up on the losing end of a 58-41 decision. The Wildcats kept the game close in the first half and actually took a 19-18 lead before New Hampton went on a run to close out the half with a 31-23 advantage. The Cats played scrappy defense in the second stanza but costly turnovers on the offensive end allowed the hosts to build an insurmountable lead.
Autumn Kariuki, Rebecca DeTurk, Emily Kelly and Fiekah Fataar battled hard against New Hampton’s 6’3, 6’3 and 6’2 post players. Kariuki chipped in with 10 points, Fataar finished with 8 rebounds and Gabby Diaz led the Cats in scoring with 17 points. Katey Spanos had another strong performance for the 16-5 Wildcats with 3 rebounds, 6 points and 4 steals. New Hampton’s Maddie Blais finished with a game-high 21 points.
KUA travels to Governor’s Academy on Saturday for their final regular-season game.
