Wildcats Let One Slip Away

KUA, now 9-2, was handed their second loss on the season to the hands of Class A Northfield Mount Hermon.  The game was tight throughout the first half.  The Hoggers built a 6 point lead early on, but the Wildcats battled back to take a one point lead at halftime (18-17).  The second half was more of the same until KUA had a 7 point lead with less than 5 minutes to play.  NMH grabbed some key rebounds and hit some timely outside shots to close the gap.  KUA had a few opportunities to put the game away but shot a disappointing 1-for-5 from the charity stripe in the final minutes.  KUA still had a one point lead with :29 on the clock but the hosts hit a jumper to go up by one.  The Cats did not go down without a fight as they scrapped until the final buzzer.  Senior Bianca Brenz, fresh off knee surgery, played with tremendous heart.  She finished with 8 rebounds, 8 steals and 11 points in her first game back since mid-December.

Kudos to Becca DeTurk who held Northfield’s prolific scorer to just 6 points and to Emily Kelly who battled the boards and played tough defense all day.  Gabby Diaz led all scorers with 15 points.   The team will travel to Cambridge, MA on Friday to face another Class A program, Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School.
