Bunyan's free throws at the end preserve KUA's victory, 60-58.

KUA Boys basketball team eked out a 60-58 victory over Class AA rival Cushing as KUA’s Jonny Bunyan calmly sank both free throws with 2.6 seconds left on the clock.  Cushing  jumped out to an 18-4 lead at the start, but KUA found their rhythm on offense and stepped up at the defensive end to make it a game by the end of the half going into the locker room down three 29-26.  In a game of streaks KUA scored seven straight to start the second half and take the lead 33-29,  but were unable to hold on as Cushing fought back to keep the game within three for most of the half.  Sparked by the play of Bunyan and Devin Thomas coming off the bench KUA went up 48-41 with five minutes to play only to see Cushing make a run and take the lead 50-48. Teams traded baskets as time ran down.  KUA missed a solid opportunity to take the lead with 30 seconds to play on a Rick Naylor three that just rimmed out but on the ensuing possession Cushing failed to score as well which lead to Bunyan’s free throws at the end to preserve the win. In a well-balanced attack Rick Naylor lead KUA with 11 points, Dan Brooks had 9 and then five players shared the rest with 8 points apiece.  KUA’s record now stands at 7-5 as they travel to Exeter on Wednesday.
